HydroPress: controlled humidification for card restoration
HydroPress is used to humidify the card in the correct position, under a magnetic press, before processing. It does not replace the EVO4 Premium Kit: it complements it when a more technical management of humidity is needed.

Method first, then extra tools
HydroPress and PokePress are not alternatives to the EVO4 Premium Kit. They are additional modules designed to better control two specific phases of restoration.
The EVO4 Premium Kit remains the basis of the CraftCard process: it contains the tools and products needed to truly work on the card. HydroPress is used first, when a card needs to be humidified in the correct position. PokePress is used dry, or after drying and pressing, if the card retains a residual forward or backward curl.
Pokémon card restoration: the problem is not just removing creases
When a Pokémon card is creased, wavy or curved, the problem is not simply flattening it. A card can have internal tensions, residual deformations and areas that react differently during treatment.
This is why control is important in restoration: first, the damage is assessed, then it is decided whether to work dry or to use humidity. If humidity is needed, it must be managed without allowing the card to warp freely.
HydroPress was created for this phase: controlled humidification of the card in the correct position. It is not a product that repairs by itself: it prepares the card for subsequent processing with the tools of the EVO4 Premium Kit.
Hydrogel spheres release humidity quickly and controllably.
The card remains constrained while absorbing humidity.
After HydroPress, tools, processing and a press are needed.
Real case: the Lugia that went from Poor to NM 7.5
In the Lugia video, HydroPress was used as part of the CraftCard process to better manage the humidification of the card before processing and subsequent stabilization. HydroPress alone did not achieve the result: it was the combination of method, tools and control over the card.
If you can avoid humidity, avoid humidity
Humidity is useful in restoration, but it should not be the first intervention on every card. If a card is only curved, slightly warped or deformed without significant creases, it is often better to try a dry correction first.
Exposing a card to humidity when not needed adds a variable to the process. The card can react differently between the front, back and internal structure, creating new tensions or accentuating existing deformations.
This is why PokePress is useful when you want to try a dry recovery, or when after drying and pressing the card retains a slight residual curvature.
When HydroPress is really needed
HydroPress is needed when the card needs to be humidified in the correct position before processing. It should be used on any card to prepare it for subsequent treatment. Especially for the most delicate ones.
HydroPress can be useful when:
- the card has difficult creases or wrinkles;
- the card is rigid and does not respond well to dry pressing alone;
- the card needs to be prepared before controlled mechanical processing;
- the card tends to deform easily in a traditional humidor;
- faster, controlled and constrained humidification is needed;
- working on modern Pokémon cards, full art, alternate art or TCG cards with delicate surfaces.
Why hydrogel is different from common evaporators
In normal humidors or simpler humidification systems, humidity is generated by a passive evaporator. This can work, but often takes longer and leaves the card free to move or deform during absorption.
HydroPress instead uses hydrogel spheres. The hydrogel retains water and releases it quickly but controllably, creating a more effective moist microenvironment compared to traditional evaporators normally used in basic humidors.
In CraftCard practice, the card begins to humidify within the first half hour. In many cases, a window of about 1-2 hours is sufficient to prepare it for processing. The main advantage is reducing exposure time and keeping the card constrained during humidification.
Traditional humidor
- Slower humidification.
- Card often free to move.
- Greater risk of warping.
- Limited physical control over card position.
HydroPress
- Rapid and controlled release hydrogel.
- Card constrained under magnetic press.
- Useful absorption within the first half hour.
- Greater control during humidification.
The role of the magnetic press
The most important point of HydroPress is not just to create humidity. It is to create humidity while the card remains in the correct position.
When a card absorbs humidity, it can curl, warp or deform if left free. This happens because absorption is not always uniform and a pre-existing crease can reactivate internal tensions.
The magnetic press of HydroPress serves to reduce this risk: the card is kept stable while absorbing humidity from the hydrogel spheres.
How HydroPress fits into the CraftCard process
HydroPress is one phase of the process, not the entire process. To restore a creased, curved or stressed card, you need to think in steps.
First, the type of damage is assessed: simple curvature, crease, wrinkle, humidity deformation or deeper damage.
If the card can be restored without humidity, start dry. If it is too rigid, creased or stressed, HydroPress may be needed.
The hydrogel spheres are wet and allowed to swell. The card is placed under the magnetic press and allowed to humidify gradually.
After humidification, the card is processed with the correct tools. This is the phase where the crease or deformation is actually addressed.
After processing, the card must be stabilized in a press for several days. Often, this involves working in windows of about 5-10 days.
After drying and pressing, a slight forward or backward curvature may remain. In these cases, PokePress can help compensate for the residual curvature.
HydroPress and PokePress: two different extra modules
HydroPress and PokePress should not be compared to the EVO4 Premium Kit: they complement it. The correct comparison is between the two of them, because they work at two different times.
HydroPress
It is used before processing, when humidity is necessary. It allows the card to be humidified in the correct position, keeping it under a magnetic press while it absorbs humidity from the hydrogel.
- controlled humidification;
- hydrogel spheres;
- magnetic press;
- preparation for processing;
- reduction of the risk of warping during humidification.
PokePress
It is used dry, or after drying and pressing, when the card retains a residual forward or backward curvature.
- dry recovery;
- correction of curved cards;
- post-drying finishing;
- compensation of residual curvature;
- final flatness control.
PokePress after drying and pressing
Even after proper pressing, the card may retain a slight forward or backward curvature. This does not necessarily mean that the process has failed: some cards retain a memory of the deformation or react differently during drying.
PokePress is useful in these cases: it allows you to intervene dry on the residual curvature, compensating for the card's tendency to bend to one side and helping it to return straighter.
This also makes it useful for cards that are already warped or curved, when you want to try a recovery without immediately going through a humidification process.
Go to PokePressThe EVO4 Premium Kit remains the basis
HydroPress and PokePress are extra tools, but the heart of the process remains the EVO4 Premium Kit. It is the kit designed to truly work on cards, with products and tools dedicated to restoration.
HydroPress comes in when you need to manage humidification more technically. PokePress comes in when you need to dry correct or refine a residual curvature. But to truly work on the card, the complete method is needed.
Common errors in Pokémon card restoration
Humidifying a card even when not necessary
Humidity should not be the first intervention on every card. If a curvature can be corrected dry, it is better not to introduce humidity into the process.
Leaving the card free inside a humidor
A card left free during humidification can warp. HydroPress is designed to keep it constrained under a magnetic press while it absorbs humidity.
Thinking that HydroPress works alone
HydroPress prepares the card. The actual processing requires suitable tools, method and subsequent pressing.
Skipping stabilization
After processing, the card must be stabilized. In many cases, prolonged pressing with clamps is needed, even for several days.
Ignoring residual curvature
After drying and pressing, a slight forward or backward curvature may remain. In these cases, PokePress can help compensate for the residual curvature.
Restoration and grading: does HydroPress increase the grade?
HydroPress does not increase the grade by itself. A card's grade depends on surface, edges, corners, centering, visible damage, scratches, creases and the grading company's criteria.
What HydroPress can do is help in a technical phase of restoration: controlled humidification of the card in the correct position. If the card's problem involves creases, tensions or deformations that can be improved with a correct process, better humidity management can contribute to the final result.
The case of the Lugia that went from Poor to NM 7.5 shows precisely this: not a miraculous product, but it minimizes the risk of damage and allows for a more controlled process, in which HydroPress was a phase of the CraftCard method.
Frequently Asked Questions about HydroPress and PokePress
Does HydroPress replace the EVO4 Premium Kit?
No. HydroPress is an extra module for controlled humidification. The EVO4 Premium Kit remains the basis of the CraftCard restoration process.
Does HydroPress repair the card by itself?
No. HydroPress prepares the card for processing. Afterwards, suitable tools, method and pressing are needed.
Does HydroPress directly wet the card?
No. The hydrogel spheres release humidity into the internal environment. The card humidifies gradually without direct contact with free water.
How long should a card stay in HydroPress?
It depends on the damage and the card. With hydrogel, the card can begin to humidify within the first half hour. In many cases, about 1-2 hours are sufficient to prepare it for processing.
When is it best to use PokePress?
PokePress is suitable for curved cards to be corrected dry or after drying and pressing, when a residual forward or backward curvature remains.
Is it always better to use HydroPress?
No. If a card can be corrected without humidity, it is better to avoid humidification. HydroPress is used when humidity is truly useful.
Why does HydroPress use hydrogel?
Hydrogel retains water and releases it quickly but controllably. Compared to many common evaporators, it allows for more effective humidification in a shorter time.
Does HydroPress guarantee a better grading score?
No. No serious tool can guarantee a score. HydroPress can help to better manage a phase of the restoration, but the result depends on the damage, the card, and the method.
Build the correct CraftCard process
Start with the EVO4 Premium Kit as the basis for restoration. Add HydroPress when you need to humidify the card in the correct position. Use PokePress for dry recovery or to compensate for residual curvature after drying and pressing.
